Protecting Pedestrians on a Busy Road Near Central Bus Terminal - Oaxaca
Through our Asphalt Art Initiative, the Jalatlaco neighborhood of Oaxaca, Mexico is transforming a busy street into a safer, more welcoming space with vibrant, culturally inspired artwork.
The redesign includes well-defined car lanes, additional crosswalks, a dedicated pedestrian path, and parking enhancements—each element painted in colors and patterns that celebrate the neighborhood’s heritage, from local flowers to its historic tanning industry.
Rooted in the Oaxacan concept of ‘tequio’—collective work for community benefit—this project is a powerful example of how public art can improve safety, honor culture, and strengthen community connections.
